Several hundred very enthusiastic students from Crossroads Academy at Quality Hill gathered with Downtown and KC Parks representatives this morning for the official ribbon cutting/opening of the new West Terrace Park Playground.
Several years ago KC Parks held a design charrette with downtown design professionals to develop a master plan for West Terrace and Case Parks. The top priority of the DNA, Friends of West Terrace Park and parents of Crossroads Academy at Quality Hill was the replacement of the playground. The new playground is built in the south of area of the park, where existing trees provide shade, and it is in closer proximity to Crossroads Academy at Quality Hill.
The children’s playground offers two play zones, for ages 2-5 and ages 5-12. Play elements include Bamboo Jungle Junior balance poles – the first installation of this in KC–Rotating Dish, Spinneround, Double Disc Swings, and Play Balls to provide a variety of sensory input – and to facilitate safe risk-taking – as a part of the play experience. The funding for the $260,000 playground came from PIAC.
