Mayor’s Nights grand kick-off this Saturday

Mayor’s Nights grand kick-off this Saturday

Summer has officially arrived! Which means the start of Mayor’s Night Hoops, Mayor’s Night Kicks, Mayor’s Night Nets, and Club KC. The grand kick-off for this summer’s festivities will be on June 11 from 3-6 p.m. at the Southeast Community Center.

“Each year, I look forward to Mayor’s Night Hoops—which provides a fun, safe, and educational environment for hundreds of Kansas City’s young people each summer,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas. “Since the 1990s when then-Mayor Cleaver launched Mayor’s Nights Hoops, thousands of Kansas Citians have benefited from comradery with teammates, creating relationships with trusted mentors, and receiving valuable job training and ACT preparation. Youth activities and programs like this one make a difference, and this is an important program in our goal to keep our young people engaged in positive activities and to keep our neighborhoods safe. I’m excited to lace up on the court this season and show our kids we care about them.”

What are the Mayor’s Nights Programs?

Mayor’s Nights is comprised of three sports—Night Hoops , Night Nets and Night Kicks—that provide secure, night-time, summer activity for youth at KC Parks community centers and facilities. Mayor’s Nights are not your standard athletic programs. They also include a mandatory education component requiring each player to participate in a series of classes such as A.C.T. preparation, job training and life skills. Additionally all participants must maintain strict adherence to program rules of play, punctuality and general behavior.

A social component, Club KC, provides the opportunity for youth to gather in a secure, yet fun, environment on weekends throughout the summer.

Registration for Mayor’s Nights activities is at the door. Please bring your ID and registration fee. Learn more at https://kcparks.org/programs/mayors-nights-programs-2022
