A second holiday quick paint competition will take place this Saturday afternoon.
Visitors to Union Station last Friday evening got to witness 22 talented artists participating in the inaugural Holiday Quick Paint competition presented in partnership with KC Parks. The artists had 2.5 hours to complete an on-site painting capturing the magic of Union Station in all its holiday glory. Artists dispersed throughout the Station to create in the Holiday Reflections exhibit, the Grand Hall, and even outside on Union Station grounds.
Completed submissions were turned in and the winning artist, Liz Vargas, received a $250 purchase award from Union Station’s President & CEO George Guastello. Rounding out the top three were LD Herman and Jianqiao Luan. The original works of art are available for sale and make great holiday gifts! Please contact Heidi Markle if you are interested in making a purchase. Artwork can be viewed online>>
Better yet, come down to Union Station on December 11th and see the artists in action! The afternoon Quick Paint competition will take place this Saturday from 2-4:30 p.m. More>>
This is the second year that KC Parks has supported Union Station’s Holiday Reflections with the installation of a living Poinsettia Tree. This year, KC Parks also provided a giant Adirondack Chair that has been painted festive red/white for the holidays. Both the tree and chair are located in the walk-thru holiday village exhibit and make for great photo opportunities.
The spectacular Holiday Reflections experience fills Union Station’s massive Grand Plaza and features sky-reaching lights, giant forest friends and eye-popping, floating mirrored ornaments along with the largest holiday model train layout in the Midwest. Extravagant 3-D window scenes — complete with animated elements — add to the magic and fascinate guests of all ages. This is the biggest holiday production Union Station has mounted and is certain to delight guests of every age. Holiday Reflections is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. daily through Dec 27, 2021. Tickets are available at unionstation.org.
