Public Art Offers Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to help survey new fountains and sculptures in the KC metro area. On Saturday, November 2, from 9-11, members of the Kansas City Adopt a Monument committee will show volunteers how to measure, photograph and document new public art. The fountain in front of the movie theater at the Legends Outlet at is the location for the training session. Paul Benson, a retired conservator from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, will be leading the training.

Following the training, volunteers will select several other fountains and sculptures to survey on their own as a team. Once the three page surveys are complete, they will be sent to the Smithsonian and placed on their American Art  website, for a search in Art Inventories.

Kansas City Adopt A Monument, founded in 1994, periodically surveys and photograph recently installed public in the five-county metropolitan area. Volunteers are needed to complete surveys of over 70 new pieces of public art.
