Members of the Illusion Intermediate Synchronized Skating Team, based out of KC Parks Line Creek Community Center, will take center ice when the 2017 Prudential US Figure Skating Championships come to Kansas City later this month.
The 14-member team, along with skaters from other local rinks, will participate in the Opening Ceremonies, act as sweepers (picking up flowers and gifts thrown on the ice after a performance) and assist with the Smucker’s Skating Spectacular at the close of the competition. The Illusion is the only synchro team to participate in the Opening Ceremonies. They have been attending special rehearsals with a choreographer from Texas in preparation for the event.
In addition, Line Creek Community Center Ice Arena will host several practice sessions for competitors coming from out-of-town to compete for national titles. These sessions will be free to the public to watch. View schedule>>
About the KC Illusion Synchro Teams
The original Line Creek Synchronized team was formed in 1998 and was named Go Figure. At that time there was only one team comprised of ten skaters. Since then, they have grown into six competitive teams of various levels and ages including tots and two adult skater teams. These teams compete under the Ice Skating Institute (ISI) as well as the United States Figure Skating (USFS) systems. The Illusion Intermediate Synchronized Skating Team is a group of teenage girls who have skated together for seven years and were Synchronized Skating Champions in their division in 2013 and 2014. About the 2017 Prudential US Figure Skating Championships
In partnership with U.S. Figure Skating, the Kansas City Sports Commission, Visit KC and Sprint Center welcome the 2017 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships to Kansas City on January 14-22, 2017. A diverse group of skaters, including current and future Olympians, will compete for the country’s highest honor in the sport. The competition features more than 600 skaters vying for national titles in five divisions (championship, junior, novice, intermediate and juvenile).
