Do you know an ethnically diverse middle-school student with a passion for performance? Encourage that aspiring young performer to explore the opportunity to grow and refine his or her skills by applying for a Starlight 2020 Vincent Legacy Scholarship.
Each need-based $2,500 Vincent Legacy Scholarship provides assistance to qualified Kansas City metro students in grades 6 to 8 to pursue their passions in acting, dancing and singing. Now in its 15th year, the scholarship program is administered by Starlight’s Education and Outreach Department, and scholars may use their allotted funds throughout their middle and high school years. Since 2006, nearly $100,000 has been awarded to 40 area students.
In addition to receiving financial support, recipients become a part of the Vincent Legacy Scholarship family at Starlight, attending an annual welcome event, Starlight Broadway summer shows and a holiday reunion. The program also offers performance workshops at Starlight for scholars as well as students who auditioned for but did not win a Vincent Legacy Scholarship. Professional teaching artists lead workshops focused on dance, acting and vocal performance.
Applications for Starlight’s 2020 Vincent Legacy Scholarships are due by Friday, February 21 (extended to February 28). Application requirements include a completed application form, a letter of recommendation from the student’s parent or guardian, and a letter from the student. Select students will be invited to audition at Starlight before scholarships are awarded.
