The City of Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreations is accepting sealed statement of qualifications from interested individuals, and/or agencies for instructor(s) at our Community Centers. Proposers must include the following with their proposal to be evaluated on the following criteria:
Candidates must possess the ability to demonstrate in a class style setting to teach a variety of classes (see below). Must understand diverse learning styles, and comfortable with teaching at a variety of levels. Interested individuals, and/or agencies will need to provide a resume listing experiences and references with current certifications to teach the following classes. Instructors must demonstrate the capacity to offer consistent quality classes throughout the year. The ability to instruct concurrent classes at multiple sites is preferred.
Fitness Instructors
We are seeking fitness instructors for adult classes. The instructors must be certified and be able to teach following classes, yoga, Pilates (certified for Mat and Pilates equipment), water aerobics, aerobics, Zumba, boot camp, dance, dance aerobics fitness, toning and strengthening, or indoor cycling, etc. The instructor(s) must have completed a teacher’s training program, be certified in physical fitness or one of the areas mentioned above for which you are seeking to teach. The instructor(s) must possess strong speaking, communication, and motivational skills and be CPR Certified. Martial Arts Instructors
We are seeking Martial Arts instructor(s) for adult and youth classes to teach Karate, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Tai Chi, Taekwondo, or Kung Fu, etc. All instructors must be certified in various levels including Master’s level. CPR certification required. Interested individuals must provide a resume listing experience, references, and certifications.
Dog Obedience Instructor
We are seeking a dog obedience instructor for adults/families training their dogs. This instructor should be knowledgeable of dog temperaments, and dealing with aggression. Have some form of education of how to train the dog to be obedient to the owner. Interested parties should provide a resume listing experience and references.
Visual Arts Instructors
We are seeking a visual arts instructor(s) for youth and adult classes. This instructor should be capable of demonstrating techniques, critiquing artwork and leading one level of proficiency to the next. This person must have experience in the basics such as capturing light and shadow, how to draw in proportion, the use of color and tone, how to sketch in charcoal, or use of different media, etc. Interested parties should provide a resume listing experience, education, and references.
Pottery and Ceramics Instructors
The successful candidate will be able to create and follow a pottery curriculum for students. Additionally, the instructor will be able to instruct basic forming techniques, including: hand building, throwing on a potter’s wheel, and sculpture. Instructor will be familiar with glazes, glaze preparation, pottery materials, use of molds, kiln operation, and firing. Interested parties should provide a resume listing experience, education, and references.
Performing Arts Instructors
We are seeking a performing arts instructor(s) for youth and adult classes. This person should have experience in instructing acting, film acting, improv acting, magic, Meisner technique, speaking voice, theater acting, voice acting and theatrical dance. Interested parties should provide a resume listing experience, education, and references.
Dance Instructors
The successful candidate will be able to create and follow a dance curriculum for youth, ages 3 to 18. Additionally, the instructor will be able to instruct youth in various types of dance, including, but not limited to, tap, hip hop, ballet, jazz, and tumbling. CPR certification or a willingness to become certified is required. Interested parties should provide a resume listing experience, education, and references.
Tennis Instructors
The successful candidate(s) must be a member of USPTR OR USPTA, must be a current member of the USTA and have (5) years’ experience in coaching/teaching tennis, a current first aid/CPR training or willing to become certified. This instructor(s) must provide tennis lessons for adults and children at various park facilities throughout the Kansas City Missouri Parks and Recreation system. Interested parties should provide a resume listing experience, certifications, and references.
STEM/STEAM Instructors
We are seeking an instructor(s) for programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design, and Mathematics. This person should have experience in leading such activities as robotics, model building, video making and editing, physical sciences, and more. The successful candidate will be able to creatively integrate educational topics into a recreation setting. Interested parties should provide a resume listing experience, education, certifications, and references.
We will accept statements of qualifications not listed above, including outdoor/nature programming, fiber arts, jewelry making, cooking and nutrition, etc.
