On October 19, KC Parks Director Mark L. McHenry received the Southtown Foundation Award for Leadership at the 32nd Annual Southtown Awards Luncheon. McHenry, who will be retiring at the end of 2018, was honored for his 44+ years of service to Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation and for the significant role he has played in the development and expansion of South KC amenities including trails, the Zoo, The Bay WaterPark, Seahorse Fountain and more.
Since 1987 Southtown has celebrated the outstanding accomplishments and contributions of area businesses, institutions, neighborhoods, organizations, and individuals at the Awards Luncheon.
Also at the event, the Kansas City Zoo received the Southtown Foundation Award for Major Public Improvement in recognition of the recently opened Stingray Bay. The project cost approximately $3.6 million to complete an was funded by private donations and the Zoological District.
