The City of Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department is excited about three new programs and partnerships for children and teens in the community. These new programs are in addition to our traditional summer camp that is going on at seven of our locations.
STEaM Summer Camp is a partnership with aSTEaM Village for 3-6 graders and is a Game Design, Competitive Race Car, and Robotics program at Gregg/Klice Community Center. This seven-week camp starts June 14 and includes hands-on activities, fun instruction, competitions and interaction with industry professionals. The cost is $100 for the seven-weeks; breakfast and lunch is provided and scholarships are available.
Summer After School Program is an after-school program hosted by ArtsTech, Campfire Heartland, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City and KC Parks. This program will give students an opportunity to earn $50 a week to participate in one of four locations for five weeks (students must attend and meet certain requirements to earn the $50). Participants must be a student at Central Middle, Northeast Middle or Lincoln College Preparatory Academy. This program runs from June 21-July 23 from 2:30-6 p.m. and is for youth ages 11-14.
Let’s Play! Olympic Sports is a program that focuses on introducing kids to new sports with an emphasis on fundamentals. This program will be every Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at Gregg/Klice Community Center and will introduce participants to a new Olympic or Paralympic sport every week. Sports include Archery, Team Handball, Fencing, Boxing, Wheelchair Basketball and Goalball. Cost is $40 per child.
