UPDATE (1/8/21): Thank you to everyone who helped make Winter Magic in Swope Park a huge success. Winter Magic, Kansas City’s Premiere Christmas Lights drive thru experience was open from November 2, 2020-January 2, 2021 as a partnership between KC Parks and Jolt Lighting. Organizers were hoping to attract 20,000 cars in this first year, and exceeded that number with more than 35,000 cars from all over the Midwest atteending. A portion of the proceeds from Winter Magic benefit KC Parks summer camp scholarship fund which allows children who otherwise may not be able to attend summer camp. Winter Magic also provided opportunities to Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City, HopeKids, and the Arthritis Foundation.
(10/28/20): KC Parks is excited to announce Winter Magic will OPEN on November 2, 2020! Winter Magic is Kansas City’s Premier Christmas Drive Through Lights Experience located at Camp Lake of the Woods on Oakwood Drive in Swope Park.
Winter Magic is partnership with Jolt Lighting and The City of Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department. This partnership allows everyone to enjoy a COVID-safe holiday experience in our parks and the longest animated light tunnel in the Midwest. The cost is $20 per carload and a percentage of proceeds will benefit KC Parks Summer Camp Scholarship Fund -making sure all local children have access to summer learning and fun.
Advance ticket purchases are required. Visitors can purchase tickets (one per car-load) in advance on the Winter Magic website. On your day of arrival, you’ll cruise Oakwood Dr. in Swope Park. The drive is approximately one-mile long and completely adorned with game-changing holiday light displays.
On certain evenings, Santa Claus will be at Winter Magic waving to all the children and collecting letters in his mailbox. There are nine themed areas in Winter Magic, sections dedicated to the 12 Days of Christmas, a toy workshop, and a gorgeous stained-glass nativity. Gaze at spinning trees, lighted animals in the zoo area, and the KC Proud section. Then, trip out in the candy blacklight area. We’ll give you a lesson in taste when you see our beautiful lighted spheres. And lastly, you’ll party away as you cruise through Pixel Town.
