Scholarships give ethnically diverse students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades $2,500 to pursue professional training in the performing arts.
For the 13th consecutive year, Starlight Theatre is offering a unique scholarship opportunity to qualified middle-school students in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Ethnically diverse students in grades 6, 7 and 8 have until Monday, APRIL 2, to apply for a Vincent Legacy Scholarship.
Local community leaders Greg and Rebecca Reid created the Vincent Legacy Scholarship Fund at Starlight in 2006. The Reids established the scholarship endowment fund to provide youth who demonstrate performing arts promise, strong academic achievement and good citizenship the opportunity to further refine and improve their creative skills through professional instruction. To date, 32 scholarships with a total value of $77,500 have been awarded.
In addition to meeting ethnic and financial criteria, students must show a passion for the performing arts, maintain an academic achievement level equal or greater than a “B” (3.0) grade level, attend school regularly with no unexcused absences, and demonstrate an interest in community service.
All applications received by the March 26 deadline will be reviewed, and a limited number of finalists will be invited to audition at Starlight on April 22. In May, Starlight will award two or more scholarships, each paying for $2,500 of dance, vocal and/or acting training for scholarship recipients.
Vincent Legacy Scholarship eligibility criteria and application forms are available at www.kcstarlight.com/education, by email at education@kcstarlight.com or by calling 816.997.1134.
