Celebration of Missouri Folk Artists Nov. 22 at BRW

Final Flier for Celebration of Folk ArtistsMissouri State Parks, a division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, in collaboration with The Friends of Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center & Museum will present “A Celebration of Missouri Folk Artists” on Saturday, November 22 from 1-4 p.m. at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center & Museum.

The event will feature an eclectic mixture of art, music and cultures.  All of the artists are alumni of Missouri’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program.  The event is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Missouri Arts Council.

The event will feature the Southern Plains Dance regalia group, who will celebrate Native American culture by displaying traditional applique, beading and other techniques.  Guests will also have an opportunity to hear authentic “old time” folk music from Travis Inman, Cathy Barton and Dave Para as well as live jazz piano and vocals from Don and Princess Cox. The event will conclude with drummers and dancers from the African country of Sudan.
