Summer Camps at Starlight Theatre

Summer Camps at Starlight Theatre

There is still time – and space – to sign up your aspiring young performer for Act Like An Animal Camp or Camp Take-a-Bow at Starlight Theatre! When school’s out, Starlight’s summer camps are the best way to beat boredom and keep kids active, engaged and learning new skills.

Registration is open now for children entering first through ninth grade this fall.

For the past 13 summers, Act Like An Animal Camp (entering grades 1-5), a collaboration between Starlight and the Kansas City Zoo, has been a wildly popular choice for Kansas City kids. And, for the slightly older set, Camp Take-a-Bow (grades 6-9) is ready for its sixth performance-packed summer.

Act Like An Animal Camp meets July 9-20. Camp meets for two weeks and concludes with a live performance for families and friends. Children spend half of each day at Starlight learning specialized theatre skills, including acting, movement and music. During the other half of the day, campers journey to the Kansas City Zoo for hands-on interaction with animals, tours, crafts and camp games. The cost is $400 for the two-week camp. Campers meet from 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each weekday. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and after care is available for an additional fee. Maximum registration for the camp is 60.

Camp Take-a-Bow meets June 18-29. During this two-week camp, tweens and young teens explore their inner performing artist. Theatre professionals help campers hone their acting, singing and dance skills, and they gain hands-on experience in creating and staging a musical. They even get to assist with backstage crewing and sets, props and costumes. At the end of camp, students showcase their new skills in a fully-produced musical for families. Camp Take-a-Bow costs $350 and meets from 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each weekday. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and after care is available for an additional fee. Up to 30 campers will be accepted.
