Veteran Living History Series at the Trailside Center

Event Navigation

Thursday, October 27
7 p.m.
Trailside Center, 9901 Holmes Road

As many of you know, the first land response of US to Japanese aggression following Pearl Harbor was 8 months later when our Marines landed at Guadalcanal.  The Japanese occupied the Solomons and other islands up the chain because they wanted to block shipping lanes that would bring men and material from the US to Australia.  The US could not let that stand.  Hence the invasion of Guadalcanal and other islands.  The Japanese tried 3 times to take back Guadalcanal.  The US Marines and Navy rebuffed them every time…at great loss of life.

You will be among a select few to hear in person the story of Guadalcanal as told by 95 year-old Max Deweese,  US Marines, 2 Purple Hearts and in the first wave of Marines at Guadalcanal.
