Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

Join Joseph Wright, Operations Manager of the Warkoczewski Observatory at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and other members of the Astronomical Society of Kansas (ASKC) for an evening of sky tours and discussion of the upcoming 2017 Great American Total Solar Eclipse. The astronomers will be on-site to answer questions, share views of the sky, and will have meteorites on hand for your examination as well as information to help you be prepared for this summer’s spectacular sky show. Following this event, additional observing can be done at Warkoczewski Observatory at the University of Missouri-Kansas City until 11 p.m. *weather permitting.

Wright is also co-coordinator with David Young for the National Solar Observatory’s Citizen CATE experiment to image the solar corona during the eclipse. They are organizing and training observers at 7 sites along the Path of Totality.  Wright is an awarding winning astronomer who recently completed two mission flights aboard NASA/DLR SOFIA airborne observatory.  This is a specially converted 747SP with a 2.5m telescope peering out the side and his flight achieved an altitude of 45,200ft during the imaging flight.
