Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center will host a screening of Legacy: Spirit of the Black Panthers. The documentary focuses on the concept of “self-help” embraced by the Black Panther Party. More specifically, it examines the Kansas City Chapter of the Black Panther Party founded by Pete O’Neal (now in exile) and the variety of services they provided to the community including a free breakfast program, health screenings, and political and educational literacy. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about an often overlooked aspect of Kansas City’s rich African American history.
