Thursday, August 15, 2019
5:30-7:30 p.m.
Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, 3700 Blue Parkway

As part of the Parks & Recreation Department’s continued focus on creative placemaking through its collaboration with Greater Kansas City LISC, City Parks Alliance, and Trust for Public Land, we invite you to a program with guest speakers Kara Elliott-Ortega (Boston) and Bryan Lee (New Orleans). They will talk about specific projects they have or are currently working on (including their challenges, opportunities, and lesson learned) that are relevant for Kansas City as we work together to understand the complex relationship between creative placemaking and development and gentrification, and how public spaces and cultural institutions can mitigate displacement and help to bolster community engagement, inclusion, and equity in the representation of cultural heritage and identities throughout Kansas City’s neighborhoods.

This is a free event and space is limited.  Please register here>>
