About Sam Lacey
Sam Lacey was drafted in the first round of the 1970 NBA season and played for the Kansas City Kings. After his basketball career, he settled in Kansas City, MO with a new passion in life. He wanted to inspire the youth in the Kansas City community to improve not only their basketball skills, but their life skills as well. Mr. Lacey knew he had the potential to make a difference and would not settle for anything less. In the 70s and 80s, Sam financially sponsored many youth basketball teams. He was always looking for ways to give back to a community that gave him so much. Sadly on March 14th, 2014, Sam Lacey unexpectedly passed away; however, his mission was not complete. Before his passing, Mr. Lacey pushed to create the Gregg/ Klice Community Center Advisory Committee. They have recently dedicated their mission to carrying on Mr. Lacey’s passion for the betterment of our youth with the Annual Sam Lacey Tournament.
