Gary De Rigne was a Vietnam Platoon Sergeant in the lst Cavalry Division….holder of the Purple Heart , Bronze Star, Air Medal, Combat Infantrymans
Badge, and other decorations. He has written one of the best books on war that I have read, “One Young Soldier.” He told me “that there a hundred times when I expected to be killed in the next 5 minutes.” Gary was one of the lucky ones……but he grieves for his more than 58,000 buddies who didn’t make it home.
After Vietnam, he rejoined his old company, Butler Mfg., was there for 33 years, and retired as Senior Vice-President. He also served as Exec. VP and Chief Operating Officer of Yarco Companies, a KC=based apartment management company that specializes in providing living space for Americans with limited income. Gary is an adjunct professor at Rockhurst university.
